Because work for clients is confidential, it is only possible to give vague descriptions of some projects:

  • • Fibril™ multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNT) in HNBR and FKM Study: This collaborative project was financed by Hyperion Catalysis International and several marketing/tech service reports have been produced that are available from Peter Burnett of Hyperion Catalysis. Most recently, details of this work have been pulled together in to ACS Rubber Division Paper 64, for the October 13-15 Technical Conference and Trade Expo in Pittsburgh, PA.

  • • Study of expanded graphite in permeation barrier applications: the initial work on use of expanded graphite as a sea water barrier was part of a Navy SBIR Phase 1 project (N08-042), and Rethink filed a patent application out of that work. More recently, we showed that expanded graphite is also highly effective at reducing solvent permeability of HNBR (see ACS Rubber Division Paper 33).

  • • Plasma-resistance R&D of special FKM and FVMQ (fluorosilicone) compounds for use in chip fabrication equipment. Some of the compounds developed in that project can be purchased via our relationships with various custom mixers.

  • • Formulation of a fluoro-thermoplastic elastomer for Daikin (RWF Patent Application on Fluoro-TPV)

  • • Developed method to improve elevated temperature performance of peroxide-cured FKM RWF Patent 20070179248

  • • Formulated FKM that can be cured at atmospheric pressure without blistering (US Patent 6,737,479; assigned to Cri-Tech, my former employer); this is a breakthrough based on rubber/rubber dynamic vulcanization; these products (trade name FKX) are commercially available from Cri-Tech.

  • • Recently, Rethink has been pursuing a spinoff business in underground electric power transmission, namely with the Electric Pipeline Corporation..
